Enjoying some cuddles from Chris, Abby visited our team earlier this month to have her pearly whites cleaned. Of all breeds, Greyhounds in particular are notorious for having dental disease, something Dr Kunal knows all too well having two greys of his own.
During Abby’s initial mouth examination, Dr Kunal found that she had grade 3 dental disease as well as a dental sinus. A dental sinus is an abnormal channel that drains from a longstanding dental abscess associated with either a necrotic or dead tooth.

Now we don’t go pulling teeth out willy-nilly; we confirm the extent of the damage and assess the viability of a tooth before extraction. In Abby’s case, the use of dental x-rays helped us to confirm that this tooth required removal as there was a significant amount of bone loss.

After confirming that the tooth needed to go, Dr Kunal carefully extracted the decaying tooth and stitched up the gum with dissolvable sutures. The rest of Abby’s teeth were scaled using an ultrasonic scaler and polished leaving her mouth looking bright and white!

Her breath was now smelling fresh and Abby was feeling so much better! She visited us for her 7 day recheck and was back to her happy, go lucky self once again!
